Identification
Unmistakable species, reaching a wingspan of around 8 cm. Wings with pointed tips, upper side bright orange with broad black edges. Underside rich brown with dark red edges and a long row of grey ocelli with white centers.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Peninsular Malaysia and Langkawi. Species found from Myanmar to central Indonesia and Philippines. Lives in submontane and montane forest, often near streams.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed. It is still relatively common but dependant on forested habitats, so potentially sensitive to deforestation.
