Identification
Adults can grow to 80 cm in length but usually don’t reach above 65 cm. Females are bigger than males. Coloration is almost uniformly light beige. Head with blunt snout and vertical pupils. Clear belly, flanks with indistinct dark markings.

Range and habitat
The species is found in western Africa, from Senegal to Ivory coast and Mali, east to Cameroon. Lives in savannas, open woodlands with tall bushes and grasses.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is common and widespread at this time. No short-term threats have been identified. Collection for the trade occurs but at low levels.
