Identification
Small species, reaching up to 28 cm in body length. Large dark tail covered with rows of spiny scales. Coloration tan to brown with dark transversal bands on flanks and back and rows of round golden yellow to light beige spots.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Mexico and occurs in the Rio Tepalcatepec basin, in Michoacan and Jalisco states. Lives in dry forests from 200 to 600 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a very small range and its populations are highly fragmented. Suffers from habitat loss because of intensive agriculture in the region.
