Identification
The species reaches up to 140 cm in length. Coloration similar to D. russelii but grayer with browner blotches on back and flanks and with an extra double row of small blotches between the big dorsal and flank blotches. Usually smaller.
Range and habitat
The species is found in south-east Asia, from south China and Taiwan to Indochina, Thailand and western Indonesia (from east Java to Flores). Lives in secondary growth forest, forest edges, agricultural land, rice fields.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species remains locally common and very adaptable but is caught and killed in big numbers in parts of its range. Its status may be reevaluated.
