Identification
The species grows to about 50 cm in length. Dorsal fins of near equal size and with clear tip. Body color beige to olive-brown with a number of black round spots on flanks and back and faint dark saddle-like markings on back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area and has a very small range, off Jimbaran Bay, near south-west coasts of Bali island, in Indonesia. Lives in coral reefs, often found in cracks and crevaces.

Status : The species has a very small range that is threatened by pollution, disturbance from fisheries and tourists and overcollection for the trade.
