Identification
Adults can grow to 33 cm in length for a weight up to 1.4 kg. Elongated oval body with large fins on each sides. Very large eyes. Fairly short tentacles. Coloration very variable, brownish to silvery grey, often with spots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Japan, Australia, New Zealand and east to Hawaii. Lives in seagrass beds, rocky areas, coral reefs, down to 100 meters deep.
