Identification
Body length of 40 cm, tail length of 17 cm, weight up to 3 kg. Body covered by bony plates, powerful claws. Large amount of hair covering the underside and back. Coloration usually brown to beige-brown.

Range and habitat
Occurs from south-east Bolivia and Paraguay to most of Argentina and extreme east Chile. Lives in grasslands, savanna and cultivated areas, up to 1300 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is common in its large range and some populations are even increasing in numbers. Can adapt well to changes in its habitat.
