Identification
Cylindrical body and long tail. Total length is sometimes over 30 cm. Small triangular head. Flanks and back armored with small plates. Coloration brown to chestnut brown on flanks, beige to brown back and head with black spots.

Range and habitat
The subspecies occurs throughout Madagascar, on nearby islands of Nosy Be and Grande Glorieuse. Other subspecies found on Seychelles. Lives in a wide variety of habitats including scrublands and humid forests.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species isn’t considered threatened and remains globally common. Subspecies insulanus from Seychelles has a very small range.
