Identification
Body length up to 56 cm for a weight of 599 g. Plumage brown with reddish-brown undertail. Breast neck and head grey-brown. Pinkish bare skin area around cheeks and eyes. Yellow bill.
Range and habitat
From south-central Brazil and Eastern Bolivia to western Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina. Lives in lowland swamp-forest mostly, also dry subtropical forests up to 1500 m.

Status : The species is still widespread and fairly common. In Chaco, deforestation and degradation of habitat are causes for local declines.
