Identification
Body length up to 40 cm for a weight up to 2 kg. Tail-less. Fur greenish-brown on front part of body and head, flanks golden-brown, lower back and rump black.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Brazil and occurs in the north-eastern part of the country, south of the Amazon. Occurs in caatinga, scrublands and woodlands, preferably in drier areas.

Status : This species is still common in most of its wide range. No imminent threat to its survival detected.
