Identification
Length of 35.2 cm for a weight of 396 g. Cylindrical and elongated body, long head with a large mouth with apparent teeth. Coloration light brownish, fins are red, becoming dark red on tail. Black spot at base of tail and behind gill coverts.

Range and habitat
South America, in south Brazil, Praguay, Bolivia and north Argentina in the Paraguay, Uruguay, Parana, La Plata and Marmoré River bassins. Found in rivers, streams and marshes with moderate water flow.

Status : The species seems to face no direct threats. It is widely distributed within its range and can tolerate a certain degree of habitat changes.
