Identification
Adults can grow to 75 cm in length for a weight of 940 g. Very powerful black bill. Plumage is dull violet-blue with a greyish tinge on head, brighter violet-blue on wings and belly. Orange-yellow eye contour. Round yellow skin patch behind bill.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America and is endemic to Brazil, occurring in the north-east part of the country, in north-eastern Bahia state. Lives in caatinga vegetation with Licuri palms and nearby sandstone cliffs.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is endangered and classified as Restricted Range by Birdlife. Barely more than 1000 specimens survive in the wild today.
