Identification
Adults can reach a length of 89 cm for a weight of 4.5 kg. Largest grey goose species with long bill, grey plumage with black stripes on belly, dark stripes on neck and darker wings. Subspecies with large pink bill and clear pink legs, larger.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found from Romania and Turkey to Russia and China, winters in central and south Asia. Species also found in northern Europe. Breeds in open grasslands near water. Winters on farmland and open areas.

Status : The species is very adaptable and its numbers seem to be increasing despite locally intense hunting pressure (especially in Asia).
