Identification
Body length between 2.5 and 4 cm, females being bigger than males. Coloration mostly black with yellow spots only on flanks and seldom on back. No yellow moustache pattern on upper lips. Underside of feet is bright red.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in northern Argentina, it was thought to be endemic but evidence suggests it may occur in Paraguay and Bolivia. Lives in grasslands with rocky outcrops, never far from streams, lakes or marshes.

Status : The species remains locally common to abundant and can withstand some change in its habitat as long as water remains.
