Identification
Large agamid reaching a full length of 85 cm. Unmistakable. Large conical head with big mouth. Roundish ruff of skin found on each sides of its head, erected during display. Coloration generally beige-brown, with mottling and spots.
Range and habitat
The species occurs from southern Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea to northern Australia in Northern Territory, Queensland and Northern Australia. Lives in humid tropical savannah woodlands, rarely deserts.

Status : The species has a relatively large range and is secure so far. It faces threats locally such as harvest for pet trade in Indonesia and late season fires.
