Identification
Adults usually grow to 10 cm in length. Large mouth with thick lips, clear eye. Coloration is light pinkish with yellow tinge on back and apparent large scales. Vertical bar under dorsal fin, broad bar on tail peduncle. Fin edges are red.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in a small area of the western central Atlantic, around Bahamas and Cayman islands to Cuba and Belize. Lives in deeper coral reefs and rocky reefs, from 3 to around 91 meters deep.

Status : The species has a small range and is fairly common in the deeper waters. It is locally overpredated by the introduced lionfish but seems to remain safe.
