Identification
The species grows to 38 cm in length for a weight of 535 g. Bright green plumage, turning more yellowish on belly, underside of wings bright red. Subspecies with small clear yellow patch on forehead, horn-colored bill with black tip.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from western Panama to Central Colombia. Species also found from eastern Colombia to central Brazil and Bolivia. Lives in tropical woodlands, gallery forests, suburban parks, below 500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is locally common but has declined in Venezuela and Panama because of overtrapping for the pet trade and, locally, habitat loss.
