Identification
Total length of 29 cm. Stocky parrot with short tail. Clear yellow bill. Plumage green with red undertail. Breast and belly grey to purplish, Cheeks and head grey to purplish-grey with white mottling. White forehead patch.

Range and habitat
Andes from Western Venezuela through Colombia to Ecuador and north-western Peru. Lives in temperate forests and wooded ravines, up to 3100 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Uncommon and local species. Deforestation is a problem in parts of its range. Assessing true status of species is difficult because of nomadic habits.
