Identification
The species grows to 65 cm in length. Body slender, flat forehead, large mouth. Juveniles have alternating longitudinal blue and red stripes. Adults are cream-beige with light stripes and reddish to dark brown spots covering all flanks.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and southern Africa to Phoenix Islands, north to South Japan, south to Australia. Lives in lagoons and seaward reefs, in coral rich areas, to 80 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread but not so common and remains poorly known. The impact of fisheries and aquarium trade hasn’t been studied.
