Identification
Adults can reach 35 cm in length for a weight of 485 g. Bill dirty horn-colored with grey sides.Plumage bright green. This subspecies has bright red forehead and lores, yellow cheeks and blue upper crown. Black-scaling on nape.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in central America, from the Caribbean side of Mexico (south Tamaulipas) to North-east Nicaragua. Species also occurs south to Colombia. Lives in edges of forests, open wooded areas, plantations, to 1100 meters.

Status : The species is often the most abundant Amazona within its range. Local declines and even extirpation occur because of overcapture and habitat loss.
