Identification
The species grows to 32 cm in length for a weight of 469 g. Plumage green with yellow bend of wing, red underwing and undertail. Forecrown, cheeks and throat yellow-orange. Light blue band above the eyes and sometimes on forehead.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America from north-east Colombia, Venezuela and Guianas to central Brazil and east Peru. Isolated population in east Brazil. Other subspecies found on Trinidad and Tobago. Lives in all kinds of forests, woodlands and wooded grasslands in lowlands.

Status : The species is common to abundant in most of its range. Intensively hunted in Guianas and Venezuela, both for the trade and for food.
