Identification
Small clownfish species reaching usually a maximum length of 11 cm. Laterally compressed but less deep than other damselfishes. Coloration bright orange, darkening to black on belly and anal fins. Large vertical white band on head.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in the northern-central Indian Ocean, around the Maldives archipelago and Sri Lanka. Lives in coral and rocky reef edges, from 2 to 25 meters deep.

Status : The species has a small range and could be disturbed by tourism activities but seems to remain common.
