Identification
The species can reach 2.10 meters in length. Well visible back ridge giving a triangular cross section. Coloration is dark blue with thick white bands on lower flanks and back. Bright red head and tail. This subspecies has pure red tail.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, from South Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia and western Indonesia. Lives in lowland forests and woodlands, often close to water or rice plantations.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is listed as Least Concern as it has a wide range. It occurs in protected areas but is still occasionally captured for the trade.
