Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan of 9.5 cm. Closely resembles the monarch butterfly. Wings are orange (lighter on underside) with strong black markings on veins. Black wing edges with two rows of white spots. White band on forewings.

Range and habitat
The species occurs from India and Sri Lanka to China, south to Indonesia and northern Territory in Australia. This subspecies occurs in most of mainland Asia. Lives in humid scrubland, forests, agricultural areas.

Status : The species has a huge range and can live in degraded or human-made habitats as long as host plants are available. Not assessed so far.
