Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan up to 4.5 cm. Wing margins are toothed. Male has bright red wings with a broad black edge, white band on forewing and faint black and red striping on upper margin of forewing. Underside has mixed stripes.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs on Bohol, Leyte, Samar, Cebu and Panaon. The species is endemic to Philippines and occurs on most islands except Palawan. Mostly found in forests and forest edges.

Status : The species’ status hasn’t be assessed yet. The species appears to be locally common but could be facing habitat loss in a few islands.
