Identification
The species can reach 11 cm in length. Round body, laterally compressed with protruding mouth. Coloration is greenish-turquoise to yellowish with dark scale centers on flanks making three broad vertical bars. Fin edges are black.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-pacific Area from Rowley shoals and Malaysia to Philippines and south Japan, Great Barrier Reef, Samoa and Tonga. Lives in costal lagoons and outer reefs with lots of soft corals, down to 40 m.

Status : The species has a large range but is declining globally because of loss of coral reefs, although it can live in slightly disturbed habitats.
