Identification
Adults can grow to 56 cm in length although they’re usually smaller. Elongated and laterally compressed body. Prominent lateral line on back half of body, flattened chevron-like marks on first half of silvery flanks. Dark fins except for anal fin.
Range and habitat
This species in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to Micronesia, north to Japan, south to Australia. Lives in coastal inner reefs, above sandy bottoms, often near the surface.

Status : The species has a huge range and remains mostly common. It isn’t targeted by fisheries and only caught in small quantities by fishermen.
