Identification
Adults can grow to 168 cm for a weight of 25 kg. Laterally flattened body with steep head profile and bulbous forehead. Silvery. Juveniles have filaments protruding from dorsal and pelvic fins. Adults have shorter filaments, bluish fins.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to french Polynesia, north to South Japan, south to North Australia and Arafura sea. Lives in coastal waters over coral reefs, below 60 meters.

Status : The species is targeted as a food fish by fisheries around its range. It could be locally declining but not enough to be qualified as threatened.
