Identification
The species can reach about 15 cm in length. Coloration greenish yellow to paler beige (according to habitat) with longitudinal black band. Very long tube-like mouth. Body enclosed in an armor made of thin transparent plates.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, around Tanzanian coasts and Seychelles, then from South Japan to north Australia, east to Vanuatu. Lives in seagrass beds and coral reefs with Acropora corals, down to 40 meters.

Status : The species is often caught for the aquarium trade (extent unknown) and its preferred habitats have declined dramatically these last decades.
