Identification
Adults can grow to a body length of 30 cm for a wingspan of 170 cm and a weight of 2 kg. One of the world’s biggest bats. Large eyes, short muzzle. Black wings, black to dark brown fur, brown chest, golden crown, orange collar.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Philippines, being found patchily on almost all big islands except Palawan. Other subspecies found on Mindanao. Lives in primary and high quality secondary forests, to 1100 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has declined significantly because of deforestation, disturbance at roosting sites and globalized hunting within its range.
