Identification
The species can grow to about 10 cm in body diameter. The carapace is fan-shaped with spines on edges. Walking legs are hairy. Pincers are thick, with black tip. Coloration red to pink or violet with more or less white spots and blotches.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean, from south Japan and Taiwan to north Australia, Samoa and Fiji. Lives in rocky and coral reefs, on both hard and sandy bottoms.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed. It is believed to be common throughout its range and safe because of its adaptability.
