Identification
The species can grow to 27 cm in length. Body quite elongated and head with distinct round profile. Coloration is uniform dark blue to blue-grey with yellowish pectoral fins. Pacific Ocean populations have a white tail.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa and Mascarene Islands to Hawaii, north to Japan, south to Australia. Lives in steep outer reef slopes, drop-offs, from 5 to more than 100 meters deep.
