Identification
Total length is about 16 cm. Heavily built black body with more or less extensive orange to yellow markings on flanks and back.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Laos and occurs in four districts located in the northern parts of the country. It lives in cold montane streams with rocky bottom and tall grass on the banks, at about 1100 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species came close to extinction because of relentless capture by wildlife traders. Its wild populations are now carefully managed.
