Identification
Adults can grow to 28 cm in length for a weight of 94 g. Dirty grey-yellow legs, bright yellow bill with dark tip, white eyering. Wings and back grey, dark grey head with white streaks on throat. Breast and belly chestnut-brown.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in Alaska, Canada and north-east USA. The species occurs from Alaska through Canada and USA to Mexico. Lives in open forests, woodlands, parks and gardens with humid grassy areas.

Status : The species is one of the commonest wild birds in North America. It is locally abundant but some populations have declined because of pesticide use.
