Identification
One of the largest members of its genus, reaching 15 cm in length and weight of 31 g. Turquoise-blue and buff belly, Black wings and back, blue rump. Yellow head with black throat and red cheeks. This subspecies has streaked belly.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, in the Andes from south-west Venezuela and central Colombia to east slope of Andes in Peru. Lives in humid montane forests and second growth, from 1000 to 2600 meters.

Status : The species is globally uncommon but doesn’t face any threats so far. Development of human settlements nearby could lead to habitat destruction.
