Identification
The species grows to 12 cm in length for a weight of 23.9 grams. Black breast and back, blue and green stripes on wings, dark blue to bluish-green flanks, white belly. Head is golden-yellow with black and blue mask around eyes.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in central and south America, from south-east Mexico to Panama and western Colombia and Ecuador. Lives in humid forest edges, clearings and second growth, from lowlands to 1800 m.

Status : The species is fairly common within its range although it has been badly impacted by deforestation locally. It can withstand a bit of habitat modification.
