Identification
Adults can reach 13 cm in length for a weight up to 27 g. Plumage jet black with light bright green face, dark blue throat and sky blue breast and belly, dark blue wings. This subspecies has entirely bright red rump and is bigger than others.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found from south Colombia to Peru, west Brazil and Bolivia. Species occurs from Colombia and Venezuela to Guianas and north Brazil. Lives in high canopy of humid forests and woodlands, from lowlands to 1500 m.

Status : The species is common in most of its range and has a very wide range. It suffers locally from deforestation, especially within the Amazonian rainforest.
