Identification
Adults grows to 14 cm in length for a weight of 22.5 grams. Female is greenish-blue with dark cheeks and golden-orange crown. Males have light to dark blue breast, black cheeks, golden-orange cap and flanks, orange belly, blue wings.

Range and habitat
The species occurs from north-east Colombia to Venezuela, the Guianas and extreme north Brazil. Isolated populations in Peru, Bolivia and central Brazil. Lives in dry savanna woodlands, gardens and ranchlands, to 2500 meters.

Status : The species is common and its populations have increased with deforestation. It can thrive in man-made habitats and faces no threats currently.
