Identification
Adults can reach 35 cm in length for a weight of 165 g. Long red and black bill, yellow ear tufts, black cap. Olive-green wings and back. Female has grey breast, reddish nape and brown tail, male has black breast and tail and is bigger.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from eastern Venezuela and the Guianas to nearby north and north-eastern Brazil. Lives in moist forests, gallery forests and woodlands, up to 900 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species remains globally common throughout its range. It doesn’t face any threats for now but loss of habitat has to be monitored.
