Identification
Adults can grow to a length up to 3 meters. The species has a very dark grey coloration, even on belly. Mature specimens have a very high and pointed dorsal fin.
Range and habitat
The species lives in all tropical, subtropical and temperate seas around the world. Found in coastal areas, in open waters but usually fairly close to the shores.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Endangered because of overfishing leading to rarefaction of prey items. Still killed for its fins in Asia. Global warming is also a cause of concern for its potential action on water oxygenation, prey rarefaction and pollution.
