Identification
The species grows to 32 cm in length for a weight of 266 g. For this subspecies, the female is dark brown with clear blue eyes and small round crest. Male is bright clear orange with bluish eyes, black wings with grey tips, big round crest.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to Central Peru. The species occurs in the Andes from western Venezuela, northern Colombia to western Bolivia. Lives in montane forests in ravines and along streams, from 500 to 2400 meters.

Status : The species is locally common and protected by law over most of its range. So far it isn’t threatened and lives in many protected areas.
