Identification
Adults can grow to 18 cm in length for a weight of 35.6 g. Females have light yellow breast and belly and olive (with yellow tinge) wings, head and back. Male is entirely velvety black with large bright yellow rump patch. Silvery bill.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in central and south America, from Panama to most of western Colombia, south to coastal southwestern Ecuador. Lives in forest edges, clearings, plantations and gardens, up to 2100 meters.
