Identification
Adults can grow to 58 cm in length for a weight of 830 grams. Very long bill. Plumage shiny purplish-black. White throat with slight yellow tinge, red belly, yellow rump. Black bill with yellow culmen, yellow and blue base, blue eyering.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from south Venezuela and Colombia to north Bolivia and east Peru. Species also found in north and central Bolivia. Lives in lowland tropical forests, often near water, up to 1350 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species remains common so far but its dependence on forest and the fact that it is still hunted and trapped is source of concern for the future.
