Identification
Adults can grow to 20 cm in length for a weight of 37 g. Plumage mostly brown with darker cap. Face, breast and belly whitish. Yellow rump. This subspecies has greyish breast and sides of head, lighter yellow rump.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Peninsular Malaysia to Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok and Sumbawa. Species found from Myanmar to Indonesia and Philippines. Lives in open habitats with scattered bushes, even oil palm plantations, to 2000 m.

Status : The species is very common throughout its range and its populations are increasing. It can tolerate living in very degraded habitats and cities.
