Identification
Adults can reach 40 cm in length for a weight of 185 g. Most plumage is green with red rump patch and yellow breast and belly. Male has black head, female’s is brown. Subspecies has lower mandible black, upper mandible yellow with black markings.

Range and habitat
The subpecies occurs in South America, from south Colombia and West Brazil south to north-east Bolivia. Species also occurs in Brazil south of Amazon River, to east Bolivia. Lives mostly in humid lowland forests (primary mainly), rarely foothills, up to 1200 m.

Status : The species remains common in most of its range and its adaptability makes it less vulnerable to habitat loss so far.
