Identification
Adults can reach 45 cm in length for a weight of 280 g. Black head with red and blue skin around eyes. Yellow breast and belly with a wide red breast band. Bill is tequila-sunrise colored, from yellow to red, with black lower mandible.
Range and habitat
The species occurs on the Pacific slope of Central America, from western Costa Rica to Central western Panama. Lives in humid lowland forests (primary and secondary), rarely to 1500 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species isn’t threatened so far but it has declined locally because of deforestation. The small size of its range is a long term cause of concern.
