Identification
Very small but stocky monitor species reaching up to 30 cm in total length, half of which is the tail. Thick tail with rows of very spiny scales. Coloration is beige to reddish with black and white markings forming intricate pattern on back.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Australia and occurs in the northern half of the country, from north Queensland to northern West Australia. Lives in dry rocky desertic areas and scrublands.

Status : The species has a large range and the collection of wild specimens for the trade is very limited.
