Identification
Adults can reach a maximum size of 50 cm. Stout body, triangular head, ridge between nose and eyes. Round snout. Coloration dark brown with black blotches on flanks and sides. Clear scales on lower flanks and sides of head.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to the island of Taiwan, being found mostly in the central parts of the country. Lives in montane forests and woodlands, from 600 to 2800 meters.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a small range but occurs in protected areas and its habitat hasn’t been degraded yet. It isn’t believed to face any known threats.
