Identification
Adults can reach up to 10 cm in length, males being nearly twice as big as females. Flattened and broad abdomen. Wide head with huge mandibles made of two distinct large curved spines, no other spines present. Female much smaller with small mandibles. Shiny black color.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia, in southern and eastern China, North Korea and South Korea. Lives in lowland and submontane temperate and subtropical forests.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed by IUCN. It looks like the species remains safe so far although its habitat is being rapidly destroyed.
