Identification
Adults grow to 25 cm. Slight hump on forehead. Most of body is grey with faint yellow vermiculations. Yellow fins with thin blue edge and white tail band. Head and upper flanks dark grey with diagonal white band behind face.

Range and habitat
The species is found in the Western Central Pacific around the Equator, from Japan to Hawaii, and south from New Caledonia to Pitcairn and Easter Island. Lives in surge zone, areas with lots of boulders, down to 85 meters deep.

Status : The species has a huge range and is globally quite common. Mostly not targeted by fisheries and very rarely caught for international trade.
